KASAMA Airport in Northern Province has recorded a massive surge in monthly revenue from about K20,000 to over K350,000 following sustained government investment in aviation infrastructure.
Minister of Transport and Logistics Frank Tayali said this sharp increase from the previous K20,000 signifies the New Dawn administration’s commitment to sustained investment in airport infrastructure.
Speaking upon arrival at Kasama Airport yesterday, Mr Tayali said the improved infrastructure has enhanced operational efficiency, passenger experience and commercial activity, leading to increased revenue generation.
He said the surge in revenue signals growing returns from Government’s deliberate policy to modernise and expand the aviation sector.
“This is a clear demonstration that the investments we are making in airport infrastructure are paying off. Kasama Airport is now raking in over K350,000 every month, compared to the K20,000 it used to generate before the upgrade,” Mr Tayali said.
He said Government has embarked on an ambitious programme to develop the aviation sector as a key driver of economic growth, tourism promotion and regional connectivity.
Mr Tayali said the development agenda includes the upgrading of existing airports, construction of new facilities, enhancement of safety and security standards, and improvement of passenger and cargo handling capacity across the country.
“Our goal is to build a modern, efficient and competitive aviation sector that supports trade, tourism and investment, while creating employment opportunities for our people,” he said.
Mr Tayali said improved airport infrastructure will help open up rural and remote areas, stimulate local economies and improve access to markets, social services and investment opportunities.
He said Government is also working closely with cooperating partners and the private sector to mobilise resources and technical expertise for sustainable aviation development.
Mr Tayali said the upgraded Kasama Airport has significantly improved safety standards, service delivery and passenger comfort, contributing to increased traffic and higher revenue collections.
“The modern facility has transformed the travel experience and enhanced operational efficiency, making Kasama Airport a strategic gateway to Northern Province and neighbouring regions,” he added.
Mr Tayali is in Northern Province to inspect the upgraded infrastructure at Kasama Airport and assess the overall impact of the investment on service delivery and revenue generation.
