THE Ministry of Education in Lavushimanda District says the construction of teachers’ houses using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has reduced teacher absenteeism.
Speaking in an interview, Lavushimanda district education board secretary Beatus Nshenda said the development has highly motivated teachers.
“Teacher motivation has been really heightened. Teachers are well motivated and they have stopped moving up and down because they are comfortable in the houses they are living in,” he said.
He further said teacher absenteeism has reduced drastically due to the staff houses being constructed using the CDF allocation.
Mr Nshenda said the development has enhanced the performance of learners, with the grade sevens last year coming in third position, one better than 2024, against other districts in the province.
He said for Grade Nine, the district was at number six in the year 2024 and number five last year.
Lavushimanda Town Council secretary Jonas Mwendakawa said the district has so far benefited from four staff houses in the education sector under CDF.
“We have one house which was constructed last year for Mabonga Primary School and another at Mpumfu Primary School in Chief Mpumba’s chiefdom,” he said.
He said there are two staff houses at Chiundaponde Primary School in Chief Chiundaponde’s area.
Mpomfu Primary School head teacher Fredrick Mubanga, a beneficiary of a CDF staff house, has thanked the Government for the development.
“We are very grateful to the Government for coming to our aid by putting up a staff house at our school,” he said.
Mr Mubanga appealed to the Government to construct more staff houses in order for other teachers to benefit from the initiative.
