THE National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) has collected K4 million in fines from motorists who failed to pay road toll fees since 2021, as authorities intensify efforts to improve compliance with tolling regulations.
NRFA public relations manager Alphonsius Hamachila said the highest cases of toll evasion were recorded at Shimabala, Michael Chilufya Sata and Sabina toll gates.
He said motorists who refuse or fail to pay the required toll face a K2,400 penalty, in addition to the applicable toll fee. Those who fraudulently or forcibly bypass toll points risk fines of up to K120,000 or imprisonment for up to three years upon conviction.
Meanwhile, tolling at the Kazungula weighbridge for medium and heavy vehicles will resume on September 21 following rehabilitation works. Heavy vehicles with two axles will pay K200, while those with four or more axles will pay K300.
Truckers Association of Zambia president Patrick Malindi said integrating toll collection with axle-load control would make the process more seamless and improve road preservation.
