REHABILITATION works at Munyeke and Muzya dams in Zimba District are expected to be completed within 30 days.
The two community dams, located in Luyaba and Mangonda wards, are being rehabilitated to restore their water-storage capacity and improve access to water for surrounding communities and livestock.
Zimba Town Council assistant public relations officer Mastone Moonze said the project is being implemented in partnership with Engineers Without Borders USA Nebraska Professional Chapter, the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation, local communities and traditional leaders.
Mr Moonze said assessments conducted by Engineers Without Borders in 2024 inspected 48 community dams, while five were selected for detailed assessment last year.
He said the rehabilitation involves reshaping damaged sections, rebuilding with suitable soil, improving spillways, planting protective vegetation and fencing the sites.
The two dams are expected to benefit about 1,894 households.
